HL Deb 04 December 1989 vol 513 cc727-8

Lord Northfield asked Her Majesty's Government:

To what extent, as they expected, opticians are now making a charge for testing of eyesight; and what is the average charge being made.

Baroness Hooper

The amount charged for a private sight test is a matter between the patient and the optician. It is up to individual opticians to use their commercial judgment and set their prices accordingly. As private sight tests fall outside the remit of the general ophthalmic services we do not collect information on the level of charges currently being set.
