§ Lord Northfield asked Her Majesty's Government:
§ When they plan to reconsider their proposal to introduce freedom for the consumer to choose a simple refraction test as an alternative to the present sight tests by opticians.
§ Baroness HooperThe option for a refraction only sight test was considered carefully earlier this year prior to the laying of the Sight Testing (Prescription and Examination) Regulations 1989. It was concluded that it was right that all sight tests should include an eye examination. The General Optical Council are currently undertaking a wide ranging review of optical services and we shall consider any recommendations which relate to sight tests.
