HL Deb 16 October 1984 vol 455 c972
Lord Beaumont of Whitley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What investigations were made into the possibilities of renewable energy resources before granting £1.3 million towards a new power station on St. Helena.

Lord Trefgarne

The consultants were asked to review alternative options for the provision of a satisfactory electricity supply on St. Helena, including the economic and technical feasibility of using windpower. They concluded that a new diesel-engined power station was necessary. But they identified an appropriate site which might be considered for the installation of wind generators for certain purposes in the future.
