Lord Chelwoodasked Her Majesty's Government:
To summarise the latest developments from the point of view of the European Community, in their efforts to find ways to solve the Arab-Israeli dispute, and to what extent, point by point, these have the firm support of the U.S. Government.
§ Lord TrefgarneWe and our European Community partners continue to seek a negotiated settlement to the Arab/Israel dispute, based on two balanced principles: the right of all states in the area, including Israel, to exist in peace and security, and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination. We stand ready to support any constructive moves by the parties towards such a settlement.
President Reagan has recently reaffirmed his commitment to his proposals of September 1982. The Ten have said that they regard these proposals as the best available starting-point for negotiations.
