Schedule 1, page 57, line 43, at beginning insert "Subject to the following subparagraph"

Schedule 1, Page 58, line 3, at end insert—" (3) If the Secretary of State or Regional Health Authority considers it necessary to give directions in pursuance of sub-paragraph (3) of the preceding paragraph for the purpose of dealing temporarily with an emergency and has previously consulted bodies recognised by him or the Authority as representing the relevant officers about the giving of such directions for that purpose, the Secretary of State or the Authority shall be entitled to disregard the preceding sub-paragraph in relation to the directions.

My Lords, I beg to move Amendment Nos. 98 and 99 together. Amendment No. 98 is a paving Amendment to No. 99. The purpose of Amendment No. 99 is to relieve the Secretary of State or a Regional Health Authority as the case may be, in specified circumstances, from the requirement to consult officers (or staff representative bodies) before making directions under sub-paragraph (3) of paragraph 10 of Schedule 1. I beg to move.
