HL Deb 25 June 1973 vol 343 cc1764-5

[No. 17] Clause 8, page 8, line 5. at end insert—"so however that an Area Health Authority shall not be entitled to exercise any function which by virtue of subsection (3) of this section is exercisable by the Family Practitioner Committee established by the Authority".

LORD ABERDARE

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 17. This Amendment precludes the concurrent exercise by an Area Health Authority of any functions conferred on its Family Practitioner Committee by regulations under Clause 7(3). The existing provisions of Clause 7(7)(a) were not in fact intended to provide for the concurrent exercise of functions by these two bodies, and this specific prohibition has been tabled in response to representations by the medical profession.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Aberdare.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
