HL Deb 25 June 1973 vol 343 c1765

[No. 18] Clause 8, page 8. line 31, leave out "the Secretary of State may" and insert "it shall be the duty of the Secretary of State to".

LORD ABERDARE

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in their Amendment No. 18. This Amendment gives effect to the promise made by my honourable friend the Parliamentary Secretary in Committee in another place. It makes it mandatory, instead of permissive, to recognise any committee representing a category of persons (other than members of the five "key" professions) where the Secretary of State is satisfied that it is representative of that category and that recognition is in the interests of the Health Service.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Aberdare.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
