§ THE LORD CHANCELLOR (LORD HAILSHAM OF SAINT MARYLEBONE)My Lords, I rise to move that this Bill be now read a second time. As I think 448 I told the House before, this is a pure Consolidation Bill. Part I consolidates certain enactments relating to legal aid in civil proceedings and to legal advice and assistance, principally the Legal Aid and Advice Act 1949 and the Legal Advice and Assistance Act 1972. Part II consolidates certain enactments relating to legal aid in criminal proceedings and proceedings under the Children and Young Persons Act 1969. I need hardly remind the House that this Bill will be referred to the Joint Committee in the usual way, and I therefore beg to move.
§ Moved, That the Bill be now read 2ª. —(The Lord Chancellor.)
§ On Question, Bill read 2ª and referred to the Joint Committee on Consolidation Bills.
