HL Deb 02 August 1972 vol 334 cc422-3

[No. 2.] Clause 8, page 4, line 17, after ("subsection") insert ("(except advice on contraception)").

LORD POLWARTH

My Lords, I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in Amendment No. 2. This Amendment eliminates the possibility of charges being made for advice about family planning. No charge is at present made for such advice within the National Health Service, and no change was contemplated. The Government's review of family planning services has progressed to the stage where it is clear that a power to charge for advice will not be used and is not needed. An Amendment on these lines was suggested by the Opposition. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Polwarth.)
