HL Deb 13 May 1959 vol 216 cc355-6

Clause 17, page 8, line 18, leave out ("twenty pounds") and insert ("fifty pounds, and in the case of a second or subsequent conviction to a fine not exceeding one hundred pounds or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three months, or to both such fine and imprisonment").

LORD FORBES

My Lords, Clause 17 provided a penalty of £20 for wilful obstruction of persons acting in execution of Part I. The Amendment increases that penalty to £50, and adds a penalty of £100 and/or three months' imprisonment for a second or subsequent conviction. The argument for this Amendment is that obstruction of a person authorised to kill marauding deer or required under a control scheme to kill deer might result in further damage being caused to agricul ture or forestry. This Amendment, again, was originally suggested by the noble Lords, Lord Mathers and Lord Greenhill. I beg to move that this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(Lord Forbes.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
