HL Deb 29 July 1942 vol 124 cc58-9
LORD ADDISON

My Lords, I wish to ask His Majesty's Government the following question of which I have given private notice: whether the msesage to the German people reported in to-day's Press as having been broadcast by Sir Arthur Harris, Chief of the Bomber Command, had received the prior approval of His Majesty's Government, and, if so, whether His Majesty's Government propose to adopt the practice of individual officers of the different Services broadcasting statements on war aims and on strategic policy.

THE MINISTER OF ECONOMIC WARFARE (THE EARL OF SELBORNE)

My Lords, the answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. In answer to the second part His Majesty's Government hold themselves free to select the personage most suitable for any particular broadcast.

LORD ADDISON

My Lords, I propose at a convenient time, after due notice has been given, to draw attention to what may be involved in this decision.
