HL Deb 15 November 1934 vol 94 cc484-5

Clause 22, page 20, line 18, leave out from ("either,") to end of line 20, and insert ("to the provision of prizes as aforesaid or to purposes which are purposes of the society, or, as to part, to the provision of prizes as aforesaid and, as to the remainder, to such purposes as aforesaid.")

THE MARQUESS OF LONDONDERRY

My Lords, under Clause 22 as it stands, some of the proceeds of a private lottery must be devoted to the provision of prizes. This does not take into account the cases where the prizes are presented by some benevolent donor, and the Amendment seeks to remedy this omission. By the Amendment, where prizes are presented gratis, the proceeds of the lottery can be devoted entirely to purposes of the society for the members of which the lottery is promoted. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Marquess of Londonderry.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
