HL Deb 15 November 1934 vol 94 c484

Clause 21, page 19, line 12, leave out from ("deducting,") to ("shall,") in line 15 and insert:

  1. "(i) the expenses of the entertainment, excluding expenses incurred in connection with the lottery; and
  2. (ii) the expenses incurred in printing tickets in the lottery; and
  3. (iii) such sum (if any) not exceeding ten pounds as the promoters of the lottery think fit to appropriate on account of any expense incurred by them in purchasing prizes in the lottery."

THE MARQUESS OF LONDONDERRY

My Lords, the present Amendment allows a sum not exceeding £10 to be deducted from the proceeds of the entertainment for the purpose of recouping the promoters of a lottery for any cost incurred in the provision of prizes. During the debates which took place in another place attention was drawn to the fact that certain organisations have no wealthy friends. to present prizes and that in such cases prizes—for example, cakes and parcels of grocery—have to be paid for by the organisers, and it was urged that some concession should be made on this point. I beg to move.

Moved, That this House doth agree with the Commons in the said Amendment.—(The Marquess of Londonderry.)

On Question, Motion agreed to.
