§ LORD HENEAGEMy Lords, in acccordance with the notice standing in my name on the Paper, I beg to move for Returns of the strength and establishment of the cavalry regiments included in the first and second brigades of the first army corps on the 1st July, 1899; the number of officers, men, and horses embarked with each cavalry regiment included in the first and second brigades sent to South Africa when they were placed on the war establishment; showing how 1272 many of the officers, men, and horses were borne on the strength of each regiment previously; and from what sources the three effective squadrons were brought up to proper strength; and further, what was the strength and establishment of the regiments forming the third brigade sent from India on the 1st of July, and the numbers of their war establishment when landed in South Africa. I understand that the noble Marquess is quite willing to grant these Returns.
§ THE MARQUESS OF LANSDOWNEThere is no objection to the granting of the Returns. I will consult with my noble friend as to the exact form which they should take, but we shall be glad to give them.
