HC Deb 23 April 2004 vol 420 c609

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object.

To be read a Second time on Friday 15 October.

Mr. John Maples (Stratford-on-A von) (Con)

On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. Can you help me find out what methods there are to draw the attention of the public to the fact that the Prime Minister says he is in favour of a referendum, but sends his Members of Parliament to talk my Bill out, abusing the rules of the House to do so and thereby belying the honesty of his intention to hold a referendum?

David Cairns (Greenock and Inverclyde) (Lab)

Further to that point of order—

Mr. Deputy Speaker (Sir Michael Lord)

Order. I think I can deal with the point of order once and for all. That is a matter rather more of debate than for the Chair. We should now move on.
