HC Deb 30 October 2002 vol 391 cc972-3

10.4

Mr. Laurence Robertson (Tewkesbury)

The petition of the residents of Tewkesbury and others declares: That over 290 Members have signed Early Day Motion No. 186 on Doorstep Recycling Schemes, and that such schemes will encourage better use of resources which, in turn, will bring significant economic benefits; that recycling provides jobs, reduces the demand for raw materials, cuts emissions of greenhouse gases and reduces the pressure for unpopular and environmentally damaging new landfill sites and incinerators; that doorstep recycling to every home is key to the future of recycling and is both effective and inclusive: where recycling centres can be inaccessible for some areas of society such as the infirm, elderly or those without a car, everyone can take part in doorstep recycling, being as simple as putting out the rubbish. The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urges the Government to ensure that all local authorities introduce doorstep recycling schemes. And the Petitioners remain, etc.

To lie upon the Table.
