HC Deb 06 November 2002 vol 392 cc403-4 10.56 pm
Mr. David Heath (Somerton and Frome)

I have pleasure in presenting a petition collected by my constituent Mrs. Rachel von Kimmelmann of 4, Thornwall Way, Wincanton. It expresses the concern of a number my constituents at the prospect of a preemptive war against Iraq. I have attempted to express the same view in this House.

The petition states: To the honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The Humble Petition of Residents of Somerton and From and others sheweth That a pre-emptive war against Iraq would be both immoral and in contravention of the United Nations Charter, and would have unjust an unacceptable consequences for innocent civilians living in the Middle East. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House urge the Government to work with the United Nations and to use its influence to encourage the use of all peaceful and diplomatic means to reincorporate the country of Iraq into the international community. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
