HC Deb 15 February 2001 vol 363 c556

7 pm

Mr. Kerry Pollard (St. Albans)

I bring a petition from the citizens of St. Albans, bearing several thousand signatures, asking for the track and signalling of the rail network to be brought back into public ownership. It is most appropriate in view of today's news that several extra billion pounds worth of revenue will be required for the east coast mainline uprating.

The petition states: To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The Humble Petition of residents of St. Albans

Sheweth That public confidence in the safety of the rail network has been severely undermined as a result of recent events. Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House restores the public's confidence in the rail system by passing legislation to return the rail network to public ownership and accountability. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
