HC Deb 08 June 2000 vol 351 c533 7.24 pm
Mr. Mark Todd (South Derbyshire)

I wish to present a petition signed by nearly 4,000 residents of Derbyshire and elsewhere.

The petition Declares that further measures are required to control the activities of sex offenders against children once they have been released from prison. The Petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Secretary of State for the Home Department to set up an independent unit to supervise released offenders; to alter parole terms for released offenders; to consider longer prison terms for offenders; to consider electronic tagging for released offenders; to consider changes in the Mental Health Act (to include child sex offenders, to qualify them for treatment); and to provide more protection and help for victims. And the petitioners remain, etc. To lie upon the Table.
