HC Deb 20 July 2000 vol 354 c646 7.15 pm
Mr. David Drew (Stroud)

I am delighted to follow the Church Commissioner and to present a petition on behalf of two groups of residents who live in park homes in Berkeley Vale park in Berkeley and in Riverside park in Eastington, both in my Gloucestershire constituency.

The petition states: The present council tax banding system for park or mobile homes is unfair, as it caters inadvertently for such park homes (sometimes called static vans), placing them side by side with other properties of conventional construction of much more rapidly appreciating value. Moreover, many park home residents, especially retired, make comparatively little use of council services, thus increasing the sense of inequity. The petitioners therefore request that the House of Commons urge the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions to consider a new lower band for park homes which better reflects the means and needs of these residents.

To lie upon the Table.
