HC Deb 17 November 1998 vol 319 c842 9.22 pm
Mr. Julian Brazier (Canterbury)

The petition has been signed by 34,000 people gathered by an organisation called Concern for Hospitals in East Kent, which opposes the rundown of Kent and Canterbury hospital in my constituency. The petition was prompted by outrage about the consultation process organised by East Kent health authority, following which the views of no fewer than 27 organisations were misrepresented in the authority's document. In view of that, the petitioners say that they lack confidence in East Kent health authority to provide appropriate health care for the population of east Kent. The Petitioners therefore ask that the House of Commons urges the Secretary of State for Health to take steps to replace the current members of the East Kent Health Authority with people who will truly respect the health needs of the people of East Kent.

I thoroughly endorse every word of that.

To lie upon the Table.
