§ Madam SpeakerI have a short statement to make to the House. I see from the number of red poppies in evidence that it has not escaped the attention of hon. Members that next Wednesday the House will be in session at 11 am on 11 November. I regard it as appropriate for the House to join the nation in observing the two minutes' silence at that time to remember those who gave their lives for their country and to preserve our democratic freedom. I shall be in the Chair at that time and I invite hon. Members to join me on that occasion. I hope that similar arrangements will be made in Committees. Instructions will be issued to heads of department that members of staff who are working and who want to observe the silence will be enabled to do so.
