That this House takes note of European Community Document No. 5147/96, relating to company law on takeover bids, and agrees with the Government's view that a Directive would put at risk the advantages offered by the United Kingdom's present non-statutory system of takeover control without bringing compensating advantages and should therefore be opposed.—[Mr. Coe.]
