HC Deb 01 April 1996 vol 275 c125 10.15 pm
Miss Kate Hoey (Vauxhall)

I have great pleasure in presenting a petition from more than 2,000 people living in the Kennington area, among whom are some hon. Members. It supports a valuable project called Roots and Shoots. I hope that you, Madam Deputy Speaker, will have an opportunity to visit this valuable scheme which provides work skills and training in horticultural products to disadvantaged young people in Lambeth. It should be adequately funded so that it can continue. People who know the value of the scheme have signed the petition. They have visited the scheme, bought the plants and seen what is happening there. I hope that the Minister responsible will study the petition carefully and do something to ensure that this valuable scheme does not have to fold. The petition states: Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House asks that the Secretary of State for Education and employment intervenes to save 'Roots and Shoots'. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray".

To lie upon the Table.
