HC Deb 07 June 1995 vol 261 c278
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

I beg to move amendment No. 152, in page 64, leave out lines 32 and 33.

Mr. Deputy Speaker

With this, it will be convenient to discuss also Government amendments Nos. 153, 155 and 160 to 162.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

The provisions that these amendments would adjust prevent the court from making a suspended forfeiture order or other forfeiture order until it has determined the amount payable. We do not consider that the court should be so fettered because that could take months. The court should be able to forfeit property immediately after conviction where this is considered appropriate.

Amendment agreed to.

Amendment made: No. 153, in page 64, leave out lines 39 and 40.—[Lord James Douglas-Hamilton.]
