§ 12. Mr. MurphyTo ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations have been made to him concerning the reorganisation of the fire service in Wales.[1867]
§ Mr. Gwilym JonesVarious.
§ Mr. MurphyDoes the Minister agree that he deludes himself if he considers that the proposals are acceptable either to the people who work in the fire services in Wales or to those who run them. Will he reconsider his proposals, even at this late stage? If they do not carry the confidence of the vast majority of Welsh people, they are surely doomed.
§ Mr. JonesThe matter has been very long and fully considered by my right hon. and learned Friend the Home Secretary. I hope that the hon. Gentleman will be reassured to learn that the final decision was not made until all the professional advice had been secured that it was the best way forward. In particular, we received advice from the president of the Chief and Assistant Chief Fire Officers' Association.
