That this House takes note of European Community Document No. 8273/95, relating to the implementation of the Third Medium-Term Action Programme on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men 1991-95; endorses the Government view that any Community action in this field should have clear priorities and well-defined activities which can be evaluated effectively; takes note of European Community Document No. 9284/95, relating to the Fourth Medium-Term Action Programme on Equal Opportunities for Women and Men 1996-2000; shares the Government view that the programme should conform to the principles of subsidiarity; agrees with the Government that the legislative framework to ensure the principle of equality between women and men in the Community is now in place and further legislation is not justified at this time; and agrees with the Government that Member States should have an active role in the management of the programme.—[Mr. Knapman.]
