HC Deb 04 July 1994 vol 246 cc120-1 10.23 pm
Mr. Richard Alexander (Newark)

I beg to ask leave to present the following petition.

To the Honourable the Commons of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland in Parliament assembled. The Humble Petition of the undersigned people of Collingham in the County of Nottingham and elsewhere SHEWETH that:— The level of road traffic through the village of Collingham aforesaid is unacceptable and is increasing, and that the need for a bypass is urgent. The petitioners therefore request the House of Commons to urge the Secretary of State for Transport to ensure that in conjunction with the County Council of the said County of And your petitioners, as duty bound, will ever pray, etc. I am aware that I am not allowed to make a speech and I do not propose to make one. I merely wish to point out that 854 people from the village of Collingham have signed the petition, which shows the seriousness of their plight and that nothing has been done by the county council or under the guidance and urging of the Department of Transport. I have no alternative, therefore, but to present the petition to Parliament, which I do with pleasure and honour on their behalf.

To lie upon the Table.
