HC Deb 18 October 1993 vol 230 cc13-4
32. Mr. Mike O'Brien

To ask the Attorney-General what representations he has received in the last month on the Matrix Churchill affair.

The Attorney-General

None.

Mr. O'Brien

If the Scott inquiry discovered in the course of the evidence that it is taking that there was unlawful conduct or behaviour on the part either of Ministers or civil servants, would the Attorney-General, in his position, feel it appropriate to influence in any way the decision whether any prosecutions might take place?

The Attorney-General

I repeat what I said earlier: if conduct in any circumstances arising out of that inquiry or from anywhere else gives rise to a sufficiency of evidence for a realistic prospect of criminal conviction, such a matter will be brought before the courts without fear, favour, affection or ill will.
