HC Deb 27 July 1993 vol 229 cc981-2
Mr. John McAllion (Dundee, East)

I wish to present a petition from the sacked Timex workers in Dundee. The petition expresses their support for early-day motion 2310 which condemns the Timex Corporation for the inhuman and brutal treatment of the sacked Timex workers and which calls for support for a worldwide boycott of Timex products. Because of the legal shackles on British trade unions which prevent them from calling on the support of their fellow trade unionists, it is only by means of the petition and under the cloak of parliamentary privilege that the sacked Timex workers are able to make public their support for the boycott of Timex products.

The petition reads: We therefore request that the House of Commons urge Her Majesty's Government to use its influence to persuade the Timex Corporation to reverse its policies towards its own employees in Dundee. And your petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
