§ Mr. Alan W. Williams (Carmarthen)With your permission, Madam Deputy Speaker, I beg leave of the House to present a petition organised by the Welsh region of the Coalfield Communities Campaign. The petition is against the colliery closure programme announced by British Coal and the Government last October. It has been signed by more than 28,000 people from all parts of Wales and states:
Whereas your petitioners pray that your Honourable House decide to halt the proposed pit closures and to re-examine the total economic case and instruct the Government to withdraw the proposals by British Coal to close the collieries previously identified.
