§
Ordered,
That, in respect of the Car Tax (Abolition) Bill, notices of Amendments, new Clauses and new Schedules to be moved in Committee may be accepted by the Clerks at the Table before the Bill has been read a second time.—[Mr. Greg Knight.]
§ Mr. Chris Mullin (Sunderland, South)On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. It will not have escaped your notice that the hon. Member for Derby, North (Mr. Knight)—on behalf of the Government who committed us to open government—just vetoed my harmless Secret Societies (Declaration) Bill, which was designed to extend the frontiers of open government. I hope that when a Minister next comes before the House and talks about open government, you will reserve a suitable note of scepticism.
§ Mr. Deputy SpeakerOrder. What is the point of order for the Chair?
§ Mr. MullinI am attempting to draw inconsistency to your attention.
§ Mr. Deputy SpeakerOrder. Is the hon. Member challenging inconsistency in the Chair?
§ Mr. MullinNot at all Mr. Deputy Speaker.
§ Mr. Deputy SpeakerThat is not a point of order, as the hon. Member knows full well.
