§ 34. Mr. SumbergTo ask the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster whether he has any plans to visit the Bury, South constituency to discuss the administration of the Duchy.
§ Mr. WaldegraveI have no present plans to visit my hon. Friend's constituency but look forward to visiting the Duchy in the near future.
§ Mr. SumbergI welcome my right hon. Friend's appointment, but will he remember that, despite his more onerous duties as Chancellor of the Duchy, he still has the honour to speak for the great county of Lancaster in the House? Although Basildon rightly holds a place of warm affection in all our hearts, it is the Burys and the Boltons that determine who will rule Britain, so we hope that my right hon. Friend will be a very regular visitor to the County Palatine.
§ Mr. WaldegraveThe results in both the Bury constituencies were magnificent. On that occasion and many others, they led the way in the country. I look forward very much to trying temporarily to submerge my 18 loyalty to the most ancient county of Somerset and to transfer some of it to Lancashire—temporarily, I have to say.
