§ Mrs. Alice Mahon (Halifax)Nearly 3,000 citizens of Sowerby Bridge have signed a petition protesting at the proposed closure of their fire station which is a direct result of the Government's poll tax and the entirely inadequate standard spending assessment. In my opinion, the closure will lead to a risk of loss of life and damage to property; it is completely unacceptable to my constituents and I urge the House not to accept it.
