HC Deb 18 January 1991 vol 183 c1164

Order for Second Reading read.

Mr. David Winnick (Walsall, North)

I beg to move, That the Bill be now read a Second time.

Hon. Members

Object.

Mr. Deputy Speaker (Sir Paul Dean)

Objection cannot be taken at this stage.

Mr. Winnick

The Bill would ensure that advertisements for employment cannot specify age. To discriminate on the ground of age is as wrong as discrimination on any other grounds.

I do not see that this modest Bill should be opposed by the Government—

It being half-past Two o'clock, the debate stood adjourned.

Debate to be resumed on 1 March.
