HC Deb 22 October 1990 vol 178 c23

Lords amendment: No. 5, in page 7, line 19, leave out "six" and insert "three".

Motion made, and Question proposed, That this House doth agree with the Lords in the said amendment.—[Mr. Forth.]

Mr. Tony Lloyd

We welcome the fact that the Government were persuaded by the amendment moved by Labour peers, but the clause is probably one of the more obnoxious features of the Bill, as it operates against trade unions and, taken as a whole, their members. It must not be construed that, because we are happy with the amendment, we are happy with the clause. However, the amendment is an improvement because at least the Government have recognised the need to move from six months to the more acceptable period of three months.

Question put and agreed to.
