HC Deb 21 March 1990 vol 169 c1210
Mr. Andrew Hargreaves (Birmingham, Hall Green)

I beg to ask leave to present a petition on behalf of Mr. Keith A. Davies of 50 Eastham road, Billesley, Birmingham B13 and some 487 of my constituents, being all parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes church, Yardley Wood, Birmingham, on the subject of the protection of the human embryo, on which I here venture no opinion either in agreement or dissent: Wherefore your Petitioners pray that the House of Commons will take immediate steps to enact legislation which (a) forbids any procedure that involves purchase and sale of human embryos, the discarding or freezing of human embryos, their use as sources of transplant tissue or as subjects for research or experiment (unless this is done solely for the benefit of the embryo concerned); and (b) forbids all forms of trans-species fertilization. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray.

To lie upon the Table.
