§ 36. Mr. FavellTo ask the Attorney-General if he will make a statement on recent representations received on his plan to speed up the judicial process.
§ The Solicitor-GeneralImplementation of the main recommendations in the report of the civil justice review is 654 being taken forward in the Courts and Legal Services Bill and in a programme of associated changes to the rules of court and administrative reforms.
§ Mr. FavellAs a fellow lawyer, does my right hon. and learned Friend agree that a lawyer's time is money, that the system often leads to far too long being spent on court procedures, and that the speeding up of that process would be most welcome?
§ The Solicitor-GeneralI agree with my hon. Friend. One of the proposed administrative reforms will require litigants to put their cards on the table at a much earlier stage in a case. That should speed up the administration of justice and facilitate a reduction in costs.
