§ Mrs. ShephardI beg to move amendment No. 37, in page 10, line 13, at end insert—
'(6A) The Secretary of State may direct the registrar to submit to him, in such form and at such intervals as may be specified in the direction, such statistical and other reports as the Secretary of State may require; and the Secretary of State may determine at his discretion whether or not to publish a report submitted to him under this subsection.'.This amendment will require the registrar to submit to the Secretary of State such reports as he may request and to give the Secretary of State power to publish those reports if he wishes to do so. In Committee, I accepted the principle of an Opposition amendment based on previous legislation and that it would be useful for the Secretary of State to have a power to ask the registrar for statistical and other reports and to publish them if he sees fit. We undertook to bring forward our own provision to achieve that. I commend the amendment to the House.
