HC Deb 23 June 1989 vol 155 c670

Order for Second Reading read.

Hon. Members

Object.

Second Reading deferred till 7 July.

2.30 pm
Mr. Jeremy Corbyn (Islington, North)

On a point of order, Mr. Deputy Speaker. I mean no disrespect, but I detected some tardiness in the Clerk getting to his feet. I was on the point of moving, That the Bill be read a Second time. Yesterday, 500 London pensioners came to the House to lobby in support of the Bill. Only one Tory Member agreed to meet them. They will be disappointed that the Bill was not discussed.

Mr. Deputy Speaker (Sir Paul Dean)

Objection has been made to the Bill and the hon. Member has given a date for Second Reading.
