HC Deb 04 November 1988 vol 139 c1261 9.35 am
Ms. Joan Walley (Stoke-on-Trent, North)

I have a petition from residents in my constituency of Stoke-on-Trent, North who are very concerned about pedestrian safety. They feel most strongly that greater priority should be given by the Government to street lighting and to financial support for it. Their petition concludes: Wherefore your petitioners pray that your Honourable House does consider how the general deterioration in standards of street lighting can be arrested and pedestrian safety be given a far higher priority, and provision be made within the Transport Supplementary Grant for expenditure on street lighting and the grant restored to its 1985–86 status of being a contribution to both capital and current expenditure on transport, including highways. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, etc.

To lie upon the Table.
