HC Deb 03 November 1988 vol 139 c1176
13. Mr. Latham

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he is now in a position to approve the request by the Leicestershire police authority to proceed with building a new police station in Oakham.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Lucky indeed. I am pleased to say that we are now able to give approval for work on the new Oakham police station to start in 1991–92. We shall be notifying the Leicestershire police authority of this very shortly.

Mr. Latham

That is a nice present for an eye test rebel. I thank my hon. Friend most warmly for that reply. Is he aware that it will be well received in Rutland, where the police station is in a poor condition, and that it shows the Government's commitment to rural policing?

Mr. Hogg

May I say of and to my hon. Friend that he has been a persistent and determined advocate of the need to build a new police station at Oakham, and that the decision owes much to what he has said and done in this place and elsewhere.
