Question put, That the amendment be made:—

The House proceeded to a Division, and MR. DEPUTY SPEAKER stated that he thought that the Ayes had it; and, on his decision being challenged, it appeared to him that the Division was unnecessarily claimed, and he accordingly called upon the Members who supported and challenged his decision successively to rise in their places, and he declared that the Ayes had it.

Amendment proposed: No. 58, in page 7, line 3, at end insert— '(5A) A single application (a "group application") may be made under this section for the grant of not more than twenty permits to persons specified in the application if it is shown to the satisfaction of the chief officer of police that their purpose in having the weapons in question in their possession while visiting Great Britain is—

  1. (a) using them for sporting purposes on the same private premises during the same period; or
  2. (b) participating in the same competition or other event or the same series of competitions or other events.'.—[Mr. Douglas Hogg.]
