Amendment proposed: No. 60, in page 7, line 23, at end insert '(1A) A person may, without holding a firearm certificate, purchase from a registered firearms dealer a firearm to which section 1 of the principal Act applies if—

  1. (a) that person has not been in Great Britain for more than thirty days in the preceding twelve months; and
  2. 485
  3. (b) the firearm is purchased for the purpose only of being exported from Great Britain without first coming into that person's possession.'.—[Mr. Douglas Hogg.]

Question put, That the amendment be made:—

The House proceeded to a Division, and MR. DEPUTY SPEAKER stated that he thought that the Ayes had it; and, on his decision being challenged, it appeared to him that the Division was unnecessarily claimed, and he accordingly called upon the Members who supported and challenged his decision successively to rise in their places, and he declared that the Ayes had it.
