HC Deb 20 May 1988 vol 133 c1207 9.35 am
Mr. Ray Powell (Ogmore)

I have pleasure in presenting to the House a petition signed by 6,530 residents of the United Kingdom asking the House to give careful consideration to proposals to introduce a law to enable grandparents to have the right of access to their grandchildren and to be represented at court and social services hearings for the adoption or care of their grandchildren. This right is not now afforded to them by law.

My petition is similar to the one that I presented to the House a month ago containing 8,500 signatures.

I believe that it is necessary for the House to consider this very important measure in order to stop the heartache and suffering of grandparents and their grandchildren.

The petition is also signed by Gareth Wardell of 67, Elder Grove, Carmarthen, Dyfed.

To lie upon the Table.
