HC Deb 18 March 1988 vol 129 c1327 9.34 am
Mr. Roger Moate (Faversham)

I should like to present to the House a petition from my constituent Mr. G. Badley, whose address is Her Majesty's Prison, Standford hill, Kent, where he is a prison officer, on behalf of a number of other members of Her Majesty's prison service from my constituency, especially the Isle of Sheppey.

Those prison officers, out of their wages, took steps to provide their own accommodation — they are home owners. They feel a sense of discrimination against them because they are now working alongside other officers who live in official quarters. Although they all receive the same pay and awards, the other officers are now being given incentives and opportunities by the prison department to buy their own homes at substantial discounts.

My constituents feel a sense of discrimination and wish to present a petition to the House:

"Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your Honourable House encourage the Home Secretary to provide all Prison Officers with equality in monetary rewards and remunerations as is consistent with natural justice. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray etc."

To lie upon the Table.
