§ 51. Mr. David MartinTo ask the Minister for the Arts what information he has about donations to the arts from private or corporate sources in excess of £1 million in the six months to the end of June.
§ Mr. LuceI am extremely grateful to all benefactors of the arts. I shall circulate a list in the Official Report.
§ Mr. MartinWill my hon. Friend confirm that in the past month there have been four donations of more than £1 million each? Does it not show that interest and investment in this form of funding for the arts is thriving?
§ Mr. LuceMy hon. Friend is right. In one week in early July alone the arts received £7 million of support by way of donations or sponsorship. That is a clear demonstration of the amount of support and help that goes to the art—
§ Mr. LuceIt would be very good news if Opposition Members would welcome the process and encourage those who wish to help the arts.
