HC Deb 13 November 1987 vol 122 c675 9.37 am
Sir William Clark (Croydon, South)

I should like the House to accept a petition. It arises out of the tragic accident on the M4 in June last year, in which 13 people, some of them my consitutents, lost their lives. The accident was exacerbated, or aggravated, by faulty crash barriers on the motorway. Consequently, my constituents and some 28,000 other persons are petitioning: Wherefore your Petitioners pray that your honourable House urge the Secretary of State for Transport to set up a Public Inquiry into the safety of the central reservation crash barriers along the length of the M4 motorway; and this inquiry to ascertain responsibility and accountability for the sub-standard works carried out by nominating contractors which did not comply with the Department of Transport specifications thereof. And your Petitioners, as in duty bound, will ever pray, etc.

To lie upon the Table.
