HC Deb 24 June 1987 vol 118 cc29-34

[MR. SPEAKER in the Chair]

Mr. Speaker

It may be for the convenience of the House if I indicate that after calling upon all hon. Members in the Chamber to take the Oath or to Affirm I shall suspend the sitting until 4 pm. I shall again be in the Chair at 5 pm, and again at 6 pm. That will be the last occasion today.

Tomorrow, after the State Opening of Parliament, I shall resume the Chair at 2.15 pm and hope to complete the swearing in of hon. Members before the business of the House begins.

Before we swear in today, it might be for the convenience of the House if we reverted to a former practice and swore in Bench by Bench, on alternate sides of the House, starting with the Front Benches.
