HC Deb 19 February 1987 vol 110 c1053
11. Mrs. Roe

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what is the value of the horticultural output from commercial holdings in 1985 and 1986.

Mr. Donald Thompson

The value of horticultural output from commercial holdings in the United Kingdom for 1985 was estimated at £1,171 million and is forecast at £1,234 million for 1986.

Mrs. Roe

I thank my hon. Friend for his reply. Does he agree that the horticulture industry makes a major contribution to the national economy and will he ensure that the extra help for marketing announced in his ALURE package will be available to horticulture?

Mr. Thompson

I entirely agree with my hon. Friend. Marketing is indeed a most important aspect of horticultural production, and all other production. We shall give any help we can, through our various agencies, to help marketing in horticulture.
